Howard Lerman is an American entrepreneur and the CEO and co-founder of Yext, a global digital knowledge management platform. He is also the co-founder and chairman of Confide, a leading off-the-record messaging service.
Lerman grew up in Virginia and attended a magnet school, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
He then went on to Duke University where, during his sophomore year, he started JustATip.com, a website that gave users the ability to send each other anonymous tips. The site was featured on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, accounting for a large bump in traffic. Along with his partners—two former high school classmates, Tom Dixon and Sean MacIsaac—Lerman was able to sell the site for $150,000 in 2001.
Next, the three partners founded a consulting business called Intwine, specializing in Microsoft’s .NET programming language. After growing it to $5 million in sales, Lerman sold Intwine for $7 million in 2005.
His next venture was GymTicket.com, a website that allowed users to find gyms near them. The business soon expanded to include additional categories, and from there, a goal of becoming the "next Yellow Pages,” emerged. Yext was founded in 2006.
Yext serves business customers worldwide with advertising, monetization, phone, and directory services, including business listings on search sites and real-time reputation management.
Forbes included Yext on its list of America’s Top 25 Most Promising Companies in both 2014 and 2015. It was also listed as one of America's fastest-growing companies by the Inc. 5000 in 2015 and 2016, and one of Fortune's Best Places to Work in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The company went public in April 2017 with a $133 million IPO.
Lerman founded Yext on the principle that the ultimate authority on a business is the business itself. Over the years, Yext has developed into an innovative, global brand that is changing the future of search for brands, businesses, governments, and organizations worldwide.
