Aneel Bhusri is the co-founder and CEO of Workday, a cloud-based human capital management software firm.
In the early 1990s, Bhusri began his career at PeopleSoft, a business software company. The enterprise software leader quickly rose within the company under various titles including the role of Senior Vice President of Product Strategy & Marketing. He ultimately became the vice chairman of the board of directors in 1999, a position he held until PeopleSoft was purchased by Oracle in 2004.
In 2005 Bhusri co-founded Workday with Dave Duffield, PeopleSoft’s founder and former chairman and CEO. Currently, Bhusri is a member of Workday’s board of directors and served as chairman of the board from 2012 to 2014.
Bhusri has also been an advisory partner at venture capital firm, Greylock Partners, since 1999. During his time with Greylock, Bhusri has actively invested in cloud technologies in applications, data center infrastructure and middleware. He was the lead investor and chairman of storage provider, Data Domain, leading the company to be acquired by EMC in 2009 for $2.4 billion. He’s also invested in and guided the boards of Outlooksoft, Polyserve, and Perfigo, acquired by SAP, HP, and Cisco, respectively.
Additionally, Bhusri presently served on the boards of Intel, Pure Storage, Okta, and Cloudera as well as the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Workday Foundation. He is also a Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute.
The billionaire has been named to the Forbes Midas List six times since 2008. He also joined the Giving Pledge in 2018—a promise by the world’s richest individuals to give the majority of their wealth to charity.
Bhusri holds an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Brown University.
