Michael Cordano is the founder of Prime Impact Capital and the former president and chief operating officer of Western Digital, a data storage solutions company. He was previously the president of HGST, a Western Digital company.

While at Western Digital, Cordano played a key role in the company’s $19 billion acquisition of SanDisk in 2016. This was a transformational moment for company leadership, allowing them to create a business with global scale, extensive assets and deep expertise. Cordano successfully integrated SanDisk, Western Digital and HGST to create an industry leader primed for long-term growth.

A veteran of the storage industry, Cordano had previously served as HGST’s executive vice president of sales and marketing and president of the branded products group, where he managed the external storage business as well as the company's international sales and marketing organizations. In this role, Cordano took the lead on corporate strategy and executed the company’s successful financial turnaround. HGST was acquired by Western Digital in 2012.

Before HGST, Cordano co-founded and served as CEO of Fabrik, a top provider of portable and external storage solutions. He raised over $85 million in venture capital and in just three year, Fabrik was acquired by HGST.

Cordano also served as Maxtor Corporation’s EVP of worldwide sales and marketing. While there, he created and led the company’s branded products business unit, developing breakthrough product categories like the Maxtor OneTouch external storage backup solution and the Nearline hard disk drive.

Currently, Cordano serves on the advisory board of the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business and holds the role of co-CEO at Prime Impact Capital, an investment platform designed to capitalize on innovation within the global data-centric ecosystem.

Cordano earned his B.S. in business administration and management at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

In addition, it offers external HDD storage products in mobile and desktop form; client portable SSDs; removable cards that are used in consumer devices comprising mobile phones, tablets, imaging systems, and cameras and smart video systems; universal serial bus flash drives for use in the computing and consumer markets; and wireless drive products used in-field backup of created content, as well as wireless streaming of high-definition movies, photos, music, and documents to tablets, smartphones, and PCs. The company sells its products under the Western Digital, SanDisk, and WD brands to original equipment manufacturers, distributors, dealers, resellers, and retailers. Western Digital Corporation was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.
