Tom Metcalfe was named president — We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) in November 2018.
In this role, Metcalfe is responsible for business operations for WEC Energy Group’s two Wisconsin utilities: We Energies and WPS.
Metcalfe previously served as executive vice president — We Energies and WPS, since April 2016. In that role, he was responsible for Power Generation, including the companies’ fleet of fossil and renewable generation units. He had responsibility for the company’s district energy business and support organizations, including engineering, planning, training and safety. He was also responsible for Environmental, and Wholesale Energy and Fuels for We Energies and WPS.
Metcalfe joined Wisconsin Energy Corporation in June 2004, serving as vice president — We Power, a subsidiary, from 2004 until early 2011. He also served as vice president — Oak Creek from early 2011 through 2013, responsible for operations and maintenance of the site’s coal-fueled electric generating assets and fuel-handling facilities. He was appointed senior vice president — power generation for We Energies in January 2014. When WEC Energy Group was formed in June 2015, he was named senior vice president — power generation, responsible for the generation fleets of both We Energies and WPS.
Previously, Metcalfe was with Mirant Corp., leading the successful development of more than 3,000 megawatts of generating capacity in Asia and Australia, including plants in Indonesia and Queensland. Prior to joining Mirant, he worked for Seeboard, one of 12 regional electric distribution companies in the United Kingdom.
Metcalfe earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree with honors from De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom.
Metcalfe serves on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee and the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF).
