James M. Hagerty is Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of The Washington Trust Company, responsible for overseeing all commercial banking activities, including commercial and industrial lending, commercial real estate lending, cash management and related commercial banking activities.

Before joining Washington Trust, Hagerty served as the Rhode Island Regional Manager at Citizens Bank, where he was responsible for managing middle market and not-for-profit business in Rhode Island. Prior to that role, he spent more than 13 years with BankBoston and served as Finance Director for the City of Warwick.

Hagerty holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Providence College and a master’s of business administration from the University of Rhode Island. A Rhode Island resident, he serves on the boards of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Rhode Island Bankers Association, and Amos House, as well as on the Board of Trustees of Meeting Street, the President's Council at Providence College, and the Finance Committee of Saint Rose and Clement Parish. Hagerty is also a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants.
