Evan Clark Williams is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder of Twitter
Williams started Twitter in March 2006, served as its president and CEO from July 2009 to March 2010, and sat on its board of directors until February 2019
He began his career in 1999, co-founding Pyra Labs which would create the publishing platform, Blogger. In 2003, Google purchased Pyra Labs. Williams then went on to co-found Obvious Corp. and Odeo, which would lead to Twitter.
In 2011, he returned to Obvious Corp. with partners, Jason Goldman and Biz Stone, and invested in startups and incubators. Williams has invested in companies such as Branch (acquired by Facebook), Beyond Meat (which went public in 2019), Nest (acquired by Google), and Blue Bottle Coffee (acquired by Nestle).
In 2014, Williams co-founded Obvious Ventures with partners, James Joaquin and Vishal Vasishth. Today, he is the CEO of Medium, an open publishing platform.
Williams grew up on a farm in Clarks, Nebraska, and he spent a year and a half at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln before leaving college to get started on his career.
He lives in San Francisco with his wife, Sara, and their two children.
