Lawson founded Twilio in 2008, with a focus on bringing communications into the world of software. The company went public in 2016. 

Under his leadership, Twilio has grown to over 60,000 customers. Companies like Airbnb and Hulu have used the platform for their automated text messaging system and setting up their call center, respectively. 

Prior to launching Twilio, the serial entrepreneur was the co-founder and CTO of NineStar, founding CTO of Stubhub.com, and founder, CEO, and CTO of Versity. He also helped build the technology behind Amazon Web Services as one of the company’s original product managers.

Recently, he wrote a book titled, Ask Your Developer: How to Harness the Power of Software Developers and Win in the 21st Century.

Growing up in Detroit, the entrepreneurial Lawson started an event video production company at age 12 and DJ’d his way through college. He earned his B.S. in computer science and film/video at the University of Michigan.
