Michael Doak is Chief Executive Officer, Managing Partner and Co-Chairman of Griffin Highline. Prior to founding Griffin Highline, Mr. Doak served in various leadership roles at entities associated with RenaissanceRe, a global provider of reinsurance and insurance services, since June 2010, most recently as President of RenaissanceRe Ventures U.S. LLC and the portfolio manager of the direct investments equity portfolio. Alongside other senior executives, he executed all of the RenaissanceRe acquisitions and divestitures, including the $1.9Bn Platinum Re and $1.5Bn Tokio Millenium Re acquisitions. In addition, Mr. Doak was a senior member of the team that managed in excess of $10Bn of ILS / alternative reinsurance capital.
Mr. Doak is a Director and Chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee of Trupanion, Inc. (NSDQ: TRUP) and a Director of Langhorne Holdings, a global life reinsurer targeting large in-force life and annuity portfolios. He was previously a Director of Tower Hill Insurance Group, a Director of The Woodlands Financial Group and a Director of DaVinci Reinsurance Ltd.
Prior to RenaissanceRe, Mr. Doak was an investment banker in the Financial Institutions Group at Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC, where, among other transactions, he represented the United States Federal Reserve and Treasury in the $180Bn rehabilitation of AIG and SAFECO in its $6.2Bn sale to Liberty Mutual. He received a BA from the University of Virginia and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
