David Weaver is responsible for all aspects of commercial banking including business banking, commercial banking, middle market banking, and regional commercial real estate through Truist's unique Community Bank model. He is also responsible for commercial deposit and loan products, the advisory teams covering capital markets originations and corporate finance, as well as the specialty industry verticals covering dealer commercial services, senior care, government/not-for-profit, association services, and government contracting. He is a member of Truist's executive leadership team.
A 32-year veteran of the banking industry, Weaver assumed his current role in December 2019 upon the closing of the merger of equals between BB&T Corporation and SunTrust Banks Inc. Prior to that, he served as BB&T's president of community banking since 2017. He joined BB&T's Executive Management team in 2016 after being named community bank group executive in 2010. In that role, Weaver was responsible for nine regions in six states: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Pennsylvania. He was named regional president of BB&T's triangle region in 2005 after beginning his career with BB&T in 1995 as a business services officer.
Currently, Weaver serves as a board member of the Lineberger Cancer Center, Chapel Hill, North Carolina; on the executive committee at Wake Forest University Center for Private Business; and on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Dix Park Conservancy and on the advisory board of the Ronald McDonald House. He also has served as a board member of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, trustee of Wake Education Partnership, board member of Communities in Schools of North Carolina, a community board advisor for the Junior League of Raleigh, an advisory board member for Five Points Capital, class agent and alumni council member of Ravenscroft School and as Wake County chairman of the United Way of the Greater Triangle.
Weaver earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
