Brian Stempeck is the chief strategy officer at The Trade Desk, the tech company he first joined as director of client services and strategy in 2010.
Stempeck now works out of the company’s Los Angeles area offices, but up until 2019 he headed up The Trade Desk’s New York office in the Flatiron district. As chief client officer from 2015 to 2019, Stempeck oversaw The Trade Desk’s global relationships with top holding companies and worked closely with agency leaders to develop advertising strategies. He has served on the board of the company since 2019.
Prior to his career at The Trade Desk, Stempeck spent much of his time in online media. From 2008 to 2010 he served as a consultant for Bain & Company, advising Fortune 500 clients in both the pharmaceutical and retail industries on their online marketing strategies. During this time he also worked in the company’s private equity practice.
Stempeck also worked at London-based Unilever, serving on the brand management team responsible for the Dove bar soap and body wash brand. His early career was marked by a four-year run as the editorial director for E&E Publishing, where he worked as a political reporter in Washington D.C., produced and hosted daily online political shows, and helped launch the online news company’s video division in 2006. While completing his M.B.A., Stempeck placed first out of 1,200 entrants around the world in the 2007 Innovation Challenge, where he presented new marketing strategies to Hilton, Shell, and American Express.
Stempeck earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina.
