Stephanie C. Bush is head of The Hartford’s Small Commercial and Personal Lines insurance businesses. She is responsible for the overall strategic direction and financial results for both business lines, including oversight of product, underwriting, operations, sales and marketing.
The Hartford is a long-time industry leader in small commercial insurance and under Bush’s direction, the business has grown to serve nearly 1.5 million business customers across the United States. The company was one of the first insurers to create a dedicated business unit for small-business customers 40 years ago and today
ranks No. 1 for its digital capabilities.
Small Commercial provides insurance solutions to businesses with annual revenues under $50 million. The Hartford’s core Spectrum Business Owner’s Policy combines general liability, business property and business-income insurance into one policy for small business customers, offering tailored insurance coverage recommendations in real-time. In addition, The Hartford protects small businesses with workers’ compensation, commercial auto, professional liability, data-breach insurance and excess & surplus (E&S).
In addition, under Bush’s leadership, Personal Lines implemented a new technology platform to simplify and streamline the customer experience. The company continues to be a recognized leader in the 50-plus market with long-standing expertise. The Hartford’s Center for Mature Market Excellence is staffed by gerontologists who apply their knowledge of aging to the company’s products and services, as well as public-education programs about safety, mobility and independence.
Personal Lines provides automobile, homeowners and personal umbrella coverages to individuals across the United States and includes the AARP® Auto and Home Insurance Program from The Hartford, serving approximately 38 million AARP members. The Hartford’s program has been endorsed by AARP for more than 35 years.
An industry veteran, Bush returned to The Hartford in 2013 as chief product and underwriting officer for Small Commercial, was promoted to head of that business in 2014, and assumed leadership of Personal Lines in 2018. Previously, she was senior vice president of product management for personal insurance at Travelers. Prior to that, she spent 20 years at The Hartford in positions of increasing responsibility in commercial insurance product, underwriting and field operations.
