Paul V. Woolway, Managing Director, Chief Banking Officer, is responsible for the overall management of Schwab’s Banking and Trust Services enterprise including strategy, product management, credit, and regulatory oversight. He partners with other leaders across Schwab to develop and deliver a full range of deposit, lending, trust, and brokerage services. The overall goal for the enterprise is to drive a compelling value proposition and create an exceptional client experience to help reinforce and deepen Schwab’s relationship with our clients.
In this capacity, Woolway serves as the chief executive officer and on the Board of Directors for Schwab’s three affiliate state savings banks which offer retail, high net worth, and business banking services—including lending solutions and deposit products such as checking and savings accounts and certificates of deposit. Woolway also serves as chairman of the firm’s two trust companies which offer investment management and administrative custody services for trust clients and independent registered investment advisors.
Woolway has spent his entire career in the financial services sector, and since 2000 he has held senior executive positions in the banking industry. Prior to joining Charles Schwab Bank, Woolway was Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Bank of the West. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the central administrative functions of the bank, including operations, information technology, human resources, marketing, corporate communications, community and government relations, and corporate real estate. He also led the bank's product strategy and corporate development departments and was responsible for banking strategy, project management, product delivery, and mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining Bank of the West, Woolway served for 10 years as a financial services industry consultant with Arthur Andersen/Accenture and KPMG, where he provided strategic and operational consulting services to major financial services companies throughout the world.
Woolway received his degree in accounting from Loyola Marymount University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California.
