Brian Kesseler is Tenneco’s Chief Executive Officer and a member of the company’s Board of Directors.  He has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry including global operations, manufacturing, and supply chain. Kesseler’s passion for our industry, his leadership qualities and track record of elevating performance and continuous improvement, make him a particular asset to Tenneco, both as a member of the Board and as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Kesseler was named Tenneco’s CEO in May 2017, after originally joining the company in 2015 as chief operating officer.  In October 2018, after Tenneco completed the acquisition of Federal-Mogul LLC, Kesseler was named Co-CEO responsible for the Motorparts and Drive Performance divisions of the combined entity, a role he held until January 2020, when he was once again named CEO.

Prior to joining Tenneco, Kesseler spent more than 20 years with Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI). In his last role at JCI, he served as president, and previously chief operating officer, of the Johnson Controls Power Solutions business, where he was responsible for strategy development and execution, technology initiatives and operations.
Kesseler originally joined JCI in 1994 and during his tenure held leadership positions in all of the company’s business units, including serving as vice president and general manager with responsibility for Europe Systems & Services, North America Service, the Unitary Products Group, in the Building Efficiency division.

He began his career with Ford Motor Company in 1989 and worked in North America Assembly Operations for five years, in various manufacturing management roles.

Kesseler holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College. He currently serves on the board of the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.

The company was formerly known as Tenneco Automotive Inc. and changed its name to Tenneco Inc. in 2005. Tenneco Inc. was incorporated in 1996 and is based in Southfield, Michigan.
