Mike Smith Biography and Net Worth

Mike Smith is the co-founder and general partner of Footwork, an early-stage venture capital firm which leads Series A and seed funding rounds for consumer technology companies with initial product-market fit signals.

Smith co-founded Footwork in 2021, and he has focused on providing funding opportunities for entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds. 

Before launching Footwork, Smith held various executive positions at personal styling service, Stitch Fix. Smith joined Stitch Fix in 2012, one year after its launch. In his eight years with the online retailer, Smith served as general manager of Stitch Fix Men, chief operating officer and president. He has also served on its board of directors since 2020. 

Between 2003 and 2008, Smith served as a director of Walmart before transitioning into the role of vice president and COO in 2008. Smith led Walmart’s site-to-store operations, one of the largest multi-channel offerings in the industry and the driver of nearly half of all sales. Smith oversaw the order management, planning and allocation, transportation, backend systems and reverse logistics of the $5 billion division. 

Earlier in his career, Smith was the senior manager of corporate development for Liberate Technologies, the senior director of business development for DigiScents and an associate with Morgan Stanley. Smith began his career at Anderson Consulting—now Accenture—in 1992. 

He also served on the board of directors of Own The Room from 2016 to 2019 and currently serves as a director for Imperfect Foods, Mayvenn, Herman Miller and Ulta Beauty. 

Smith holds an M.B.A. from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Virginia.
