Mr. Grady is an Advisory Partner at Summit Partners, a leader in growth private equity and venture capital investing. Prior to joining Summit, Mr. Grady was a Partner at Gryphon Investors, a middle-market private equity investment firm. He was Chairman from 2010 to 2014 of the New Jersey State Investment Council, which oversees the state’s $80 billion pension fund. For a decade before that, Mr. Grady served as a global Partner, Managing Director, and Management Committee member at the Carlyle Group, a global alternative asset management firm, where was Chairman, Fund Head, and Managing Partner of Carlyle Venture Partners, the firm’s U.S. venture and growth capital organization. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Grady was a Partner and member of the Management Committee at Robertson Stephens & Company, the emerging growth-focused investment bank.
Mr. Grady previously served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to President George H.W. Bush and as Executive Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Mr. Grady is a former Director (2002-2007) and Chairman (2006-2007) of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). Mr. Grady served as a director of TWPG from September 2009 to June 2010, as a former Chairman and director of AuthenTec, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUTH), and as a former director of Blackboard, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBB), and Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM), which was merged with Analog Devices Inc. in 2021.
Mr. Grady received an A.B., cum laude, from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He later served from 1993 to 2004 on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he taught courses on environmental policy, regulation, and “Investing in Highly Regulated Industries”. He serves on the board of the St. John’s Hospital Foundation and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and on the Investment Committees of the Daniels Fund and of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole.
Mr. Grady is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and of the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
