John P. Dubinsky is currently president and CEO of Westmoreland Associates LLC and does consulting for both private and publicly held firms. He also serves as president and CEO of CORTEX, a not-for-profit promoting facilities for biotechnology in St. Louis. He is president emeritus of Firstar Bank (now U. S. Bank). Prior to the merger of Firstar (now U. S. Bank) and Mercantile Bancorporation (NYSE) in September 1999, he was chairman, president and chief executive of the $30 billion Mercantile Bank. From 1986 to 1997 he was president and CEO of Mark Twain Bancshares Inc. (NYSE).
A third generation St. Louisan, Dubinsky joined Mark Twain Bancshares Inc. in 1967 and was elected President in 1975 and chief executive officer in 1986. In 1997, Mark Twain, at his behest, entered into a strategic merger with Mercantile Bancorporation, and Dubinsky immediately became president of Mercantile’s St. Louis Middle Market Bank. Subsequently, he became chairman and CEO of Mercantile Bank and its $30 billion of banking activities throughout Missouri and the Midwest.
As an active member of his community, Dubinsky serves as: Board of Trustees member, Washington University; vice chairman (chairman 1997-2003) and director, BJC Health System and a member of its Executive, Nominating, and Compensation Committees; director and chairman of the Nominating Committee, Barnes-Jewish Hospital; board member, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation; director (former chairman), St. Louis Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance; director and member of the Executive Committee, Center for Emerging Technologies; member of the National Council of the Washington University Medical School; director and chairman of the Strategy Committee, Insituform Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ); director and member of the Audit Committee, Stifel Financial Corporation (NYSE); chairman, Stifel Bank and Trust; director, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre in Wellfleet, Mass., and member of the President’s Council, National Public Radio Foundation.
In the past, he has served as chairman, Washington University Medical Center; chairman, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation; president, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; director, Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis; trustee, St. Louis Science Center; director, Downtown Now!; trustee, Laumeier Sculpture Park; chairman, The Downtown St. Louis Partnership, Inc., and national trustee, National Symphony Orchestra, Washington D.C. He is also a former board member of NASD (National Association of Security Dealers).
Dubinsky has earned numerous awards, including Washington University Distinguished Alumni and Missouri Hospital Association Excellence in Governance Award. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Maryville University in 2004. He received the John D. Levy Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee in 2006. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1965 from Washington University and his master of business administration degree in 1967 from Washington University. He is married and has three children.
