Mitchell "Mitch" Lasky serves as a general partner at Benchmark, a venture capital and private equity firm based in San Francisco.
Lasky joined Benchmark in 2007 and oversaw the firm’s most successful investing run in its history from 2007 to 2019. During this time, Benchmark made early-stage investments in Twitter, Instagram, Riot Games, Snapchat, Uber, StitchFix, and Discord, among others, generating billions of dollars in profits.
As general partner, Lasky’s responsibilities included identifying investment opportunities in mobile, digital privacy, online education, and games. He also spearheads the firm’s investment strategy.
Prior to signing on with Benchmark, Lasky served as executive vice president of mobile and online at Electronic Arts, where he managed the transition of JAMDAT Mobile to EA Mobile post-acquisition. It was an ideal job description, as he was formerly the CEO and chairman of the board for JAMDAT from 2000 until its sale to EA in 2006. Lasky helped take JAMDAT public in 2004 prior to selling the wireless entertainment company.
For a period in 2000, Lasky worked as general manager of eCompanies Wireless, the startup incubator that helped launch JAMDAT. For five years prior he worked at Activision, the world’s largest game publisher, eventually taking over the role of executive vice president of Worldwide Studios.
Early in his career, Lasky practiced intellectual property law for Irell & Manella, served as senior counsel for the Walt Disney Company, and founded Serum Entertainment Software, a startup that created the first graphical massively multiplayer online game.
Lasky currently serves on a number of boards, including Snapchat, Cyngyn, Ubiquity6, That Game Company, Manticore Games, and Hammer & Chisel. He’s also a co-owner of the Los Angeles Football Club.
He holds a B.A. in history and literature from Harvard and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
