David “Hat” Hatfield is the chairman and CEO of Lacework, a cloud security platform, and the former president of Pure Storage, one of the world’s leading data storage platforms. 

He joined Lacework as CEO in February 2021 after serving on its board of directors since 2018. Hatfield has 30 years of leadership experience in high growth public and venture-backed private technology companies. 

Prior to Lacework, he spent eight years with Pure Storage, first as its president and then serving as vice chairman and president emeritus. In the role, he led go-to-market strategy and execution, including marketing, sales, systems engineering, channels, alliances, and business development. Hatfield grew the company from less than $10 million to $1.6 billion in revenue, and led it through its successful 2015 IPO.

Previously, he held leadership roles at Akamai Technologies and Limelight Networks, and he also participated in one of the largest enterprise software mergers in history, between Veritas Software and Symantec Corporation.

Hatfield has served as an investor and advisor for several next-generation technology companies, and he currently serves on the board of the PureGood Foundation and BetterUp. 

He earned his bachelor’s degree at Santa Clara University.
