Edwin Poston is a general partner at TrueBridge Capital Partners. Edwin has invested in private equity for over 20 years, managing assets for foundations and endowments since the early 2000s.
Before co-founding TrueBridge with long-time friend Mel Williams, Edwin worked as managing director and head of private equity at The Rockefeller Foundation in New York, where he had responsibilities across the portfolio, including the oversight of a venture portfolio with more than $400 million in commitments. As part of the Foundation’s senior management team, Edwin helped invest a $4 billion endowment in some of the venture industry’s top performing managers.
Prior to The Rockefeller Foundation, Edwin was the senior investment officer at Brandywine Trust where he worked across the portfolio, including the private equity portfolio, and was responsible for more than $4 billion in assets for high-net-worth families and foundations. During his time at both Brandywine and The Rockefeller Foundation, Edwin grew a network of close relationships with venture capitalists and industry experts, which he has continued to nurture at TrueBridge.
Before his start in private equity investing at Fallingwater, LLC, Edwin worked as an investment banker at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities (Bank of America Securities) and as an opportunistic real estate investor in Washington, D.C.
In 2012, Edwin was bestowed recognition as an Honorary Kauffman Fellow by the Center for Venture Education, in appreciation of TrueBridge’s support of the Kauffman Fellows Program. Additionally, he is a licensed attorney and currently serves as the chair of the finance committee for the Board of Directors of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a member of the investment committee for the Triangle Community Foundation. Edwin has spoken at panels for several private equity conferences and served on advisory boards for a number of venture capital and buyout funds.
Edwin received a JD/MBA from Emory University, where he was a Goizueta Scholar, and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Edwin came to The Rockefeller Foundation as the senior investment officer from Brandywine Trust, a New York and Delaware-based private trust company that manages assets for foundations and high-net-worth individuals. While at Brandywine he had responsibilities for all asset classes but spent the majority of his time on private equity, hedge funds, international equities, small cap equities, and concentrated portfolios.
Edwin began investing in private assets as an opportunistic real estate investor in the Washington, DC area and later served as an advisor at Fallingwater LLC. He began his post-graduate school career as an investment banker with NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, also known as Bank of America Securities. Edwin received a JD/MBA from Emory University, where he was a Goizueta Scholar, and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a licensed attorney and was previously licensed as a securities dealer (Series 7 and 63).
Edwin currently serves on the finance committee for the Board of Directors of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In October 2012, Edwin was named an honorary Kauffman Fellow by the Center for Venture Education in appreciation of TrueBridge's contribution and commitment to the Kauffman Fellows Program.
