Daniel Schulman is president and CEO of PayPal, the multinational online payments company.
Schulman joined PayPal in 2014 to lead the company as it separated from eBay, effective the following year. Schulman has stated that his goal for the company is to democratize e-commerce and financial services worldwide and re-conceptualize how individuals move and handle money.
With Schulman at the helm, PayPal was ranked as one of the top companies on Forbes’ and JUST Capital’s “JUST 100” list and as a Fortune “Change the World” company for its efforts in solving society’s largest issues.
In 2020, Schulman was named a Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope laureate and one of Fortune’s “Top 20 Business People of the Year.” Additionally, he was named one of Glassdoor’s “Top 50 CEOs” and received the “High-Impact Leader of the Year” award from Endeavor Global in 2019. He also was the recipient of the 2017 Brennan Legacy Award for his social justice work.
Before PayPal, Schulman was the group president of enterprise growth at American Express from 2010-2014. He helped American Express move beyond their traditional credit card and business travel core by forming a global strategy to grow alternative online and mobile payment services through the launch of a state-of-the-art digital payments platform.
Previously, Schulman was president of the prepaid group at Sprint Nextel after Virgin Mobile USA, Inc. was acquired in 2009. He served as the founding CEO of Virgin Mobile since its formation in 2001. He was also the CEO of Priceline.com in 2000 and had an 18-year career with AT&T, culminating as the president of the consumer markets division.
Schulman is a lifelong member of the Council on Foreign Relations and he co-chairs the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) steering committee whose goal is global financial inclusion. He also serves on the WEF’s Future of the Global Financial System task force.
He currently serves on the boards of directors for Verizon and Autism Speaks and has formerly been on the boards of NortonLifeLock (formerly Symantec) and Flex.
Schulman holds an M.B.A. from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and a B.A. from Middlebury College.
