Jonathan Runyan serves as general counsel for Okta Inc., a computer software company he joined after working with the organization as a client in private practice.
In his role, Runyan is responsible for overseeing the company’s legal affairs worldwide. For the four years he was with Goodwin, Runyan worked exclusively with technology companies on private company formations, M&A transactions, IPOs and venture financing deals. His clients included startups Envoy and Xoom, as well as high-profile venture funds Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Runyan spent four years as an associate at the startup venture capital law firm, Gunderson Dettmer, at the firm’s Menlo Park offices.
Runyan received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University and his M.B.A from the Yale School of Management. He earned his J.D. from U.C. Hastings, where he was a member of the Hastings Law Journal.
