As executive vice president of platform and product, Scott Rust leads the global R&D organization and is responsible for extending the value of the NI platform through the development of world-class software and hardware components and platform product designs tailored to customers across industries.
Since joining NI in 1990, Rust has held positions in R&D, strategic marketing, and applications engineering, including vice president of PXI test system products for R&D. In this role, he and his teams were responsible for the global development and strategic direction of application software products such as LabVIEW, SystemLink™ software, and TestStand; PXI measurement products such as RF, digitizers, signal generators, digital multimeters, high-speed digital I/O, switching, and power supplies; and PXI platform products like PXI chassis and controllers. Rust also established NI Penang as a center of excellence for the design and development of future NI products.
Rust founded the IVI Foundation, an alliance formed to address the gap seen by military/aerospace and large commercial electronics test developers for interchangeable virtual instrument drivers. Rust has also chaired the Instrument Driver Technical Working Group as part of the VXIplug&play Systems Alliance. These initiatives have helped establish NI as a leader in instrument driver development and standardization.
Rust is the inventor or coinventor of seven patents and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.
