After earning his bachelor’s degree in computer science at Brown University, he went on to pursue an internship at DoubleClick, which would later turn into a full-time position.

In 2007, the same pair collaborated to create 10gen, an open-source database for a wide range of applications, which would later be renamed MongoDB.
Horowitz wrote the core code base for the company and went on to build out its engineering and product teams. In his role as CTO, he oversaw those teams and drove technology innovation. The platform has been widely used by companies building high-performance systems.
MongoDB announced that Horowitz would be stepping down in March 2020, and he went on to found Viam in September.
