Joe Hanauer, as principal of Combined Investments, LLC, directs investments in real estate and related businesses.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of Move, Inc., operator of Realtor.com, Move.com and other leading residential real estate Internet sites. Having been instrumental in the formation of Move’s predecessor, Homestore, Inc, he assumed the position of chairman in January 2002 to assist the company in overcoming reported accounting irregularities.

In 1993, as Chairman, Mr. Hanauer led the financial restructuring of Grubb & Ellis Company (NYSE), one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate services and property management companies. The company shed nearly $100 million in negative shareholders’ equity, eliminated debt and returned to profitability, positive equity and to an aggressive competitive position.

Mr. Hanauer was also Chairman and CEO of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, having been responsible for developing all of its residential brokerage, franchising and mortgage related businesses nationally. During his eleven-year tenure at Coldwell Banker, businesses under his direction profitably quadrupled to nearly $1 billion in annual revenues and broker coverage increased from 2000 people to over 40,000 operating out of 2,000 locations. Coldwell Banker became an acknowledged leader in its field. He joined Coldwell Banker when he and partners sold their leading Chicago based real estate firm to the company.

In addition to being a director of Move, Inc (NASDAQ), he is a director of Calamos Mutual Funds and closed end funds. He is a member of Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies Policy Advisory Board where he is former chairman and a trustee of Roosevelt University. Additionally, he is a co-founder and Chairman of the Board of the International Real Property Foundation, a not for profit group which assists countries in emerging markets create sound real estate markets and a director of Laguna Beach Live! an organization enabling people to easily access live, quality music. He has also served on the executive committee and the board of directors of the National Association of Realtors for several years. Hanauer earned a B.S.B.A. from Roosevelt University and did graduate studies at the University of Chicago. He holds the CIPS, CRB, and CRE professional designations.
