Ty Breland serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Marriott International, Inc., the world’s largest hotel company with nearly 600,000 associates across 7,900 properties and corporate offices. He played a prominent role in Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, serving as the company’s Global HR Integration Officer and pioneered the development and launch of Marriott’s Digital Learning Zone, which provided innovative global learning access to associates during and post-integration.
Prior to these roles, Ty served as Regional Vice President of Human Resources for the Eastern Region of the U.S. and held multiple HR leadership roles supporting global disciplines, including Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Management. During that time, Ty helped launch the company’s Emerging Leaders Program, a signature initiative aimed at accelerating diversity and inclusion efforts for executive and general manager ranks. He was also responsible for initiating the company’s Workforce Innovation efforts, which provided a blueprint for reshaping front-line roles at the company’s portfolio of properties worldwide.
Prior to Marriott, Ty was a research consultant for the Human Resources Research Organization (HumRRO). He is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, with a specialization in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Ty sits on the Board at Virginia Tech’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. He resides in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife and two daughters.
