From 1993 to 2001, Ms. Zumwalt was a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop LLP, where she specialized in complex civil litigation and higher education law, and for whom she served as managing partner of the Silicon Valley office and a member of the firm’s governing board. Previously, from 1987 to 1993, Ms. Zumwalt was Senior University Counsel at Stanford, responsible for advising and representing the University in connection with congressional hearings, criminal and civil investigations, negotiations and litigation matters. Prior to joining Stanford in 1987, Ms. Zumwalt worked as litigation counsel for Chevron Chemical Company and as a litigation associate for Pillsbury Winthrop LLP in San Francisco.
Ms. Zumwalt is currently a director of Exponent, Inc., a public engineering and scientific consulting company. She is also on the boards of the American University of Afghanistan and the Academy of Art University and has served on other nonprofit boards in education and legal services. Ms. Zumwalt received a B.S. in Political Science from Arizona State University and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
