Welch began his career with an 11-year stint at Access Long Distance, where he was initially hired as a software developer and quickly rose through the ranks to ultimately become the vice president of information services. From 1999 to 2001, Welch worked as the vice president of software development for Cedar Rapids-based McLeodUSA, moving on to MPower Communications from 2002 to 2003. There, he was named IT director and oversaw the technology group to ensure core competencies were maintained to support the business.
Welch holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Utah Valley University.
