Alexander Cunningham Biography and Net Worth

Alec Cunningham is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Aetna Business Unit of CVS Health. He is responsible for driving growth in the company’s Medicare and Medicaid businesses and increasing efficiency and productivity of our networks, pricing, underwriting, service operations and marketing operations.

Mr. Cunningham, who joined Aetna in 2019, is known for his ability to deliver strong operating results through his unique depth and expertise in both the policy and operations of government-sponsored health care programs. Before joining Aetna, Mr. Cunningham was the President and Chief Executive Officer for ConcertoHealth (previously Fidelis SeniorCare) where he led the company’s transition from operating small, niche Medicare Advantage health plans to becoming a leading national provider of value-based primary care and population health management. Mr. Cunningham has also held several senior leadership roles for WellCare Health Plans, to include Chief Executive Officer. In this role, he led a strategic and operational transformation that resulted in a near doubling of revenue, earnings per share, and share price over a four-year period. Mr. Cunningham also spent a decade in the state sponsored programs division of WellPoint (now Anthem) where he designed and implemented a patient-centric field operations structure, provided legislative and regulatory advocacy, and successfully led the division’s national business development efforts to expand beyond California into multiple new markets and products nationwide.

Cunningham earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from the University of Southern California. Following graduation and completion of a military training obligation, Cunningham began his career in public service as an assistant to the Governor of Oklahoma. In this role he became involved in the redesign of the funding and delivery of publicly managed healthcare programs in the state. He later became one of the first employees of a newly created healthcare agency, Oklahoma Health Care Authority, that successfully managed the design and implementation of an innovative statewide Medicaid managed care program.

He and his wife (a clinical pharmacist) have twin daughters and live in Tampa, Florida.
