Adam Miller is the founder and co-chairman of Cornerstone OnDemand, a people development software provider.
Miller founded Cornerstone in his apartment in 1999 to support people realizing their potential. Under his leadership, Cornerstone has become one of the largest cloud computing and people development companies in the world, delivering over one billion courses to 75 million people across 192 countries. Since 2007, Cornerstone has continued its rapid growth at a rate of 50 percent year over year with Miller at the helm.
In 2020, he stepped down from his role as CEO—a position he had held since the company's founding. The move came after Cornerstone acquired talent management technology company, Saba Software Inc., for over $1 billion. Saba’s former CEO, Phil Saunders, took the lead after a brief stint as COO.
Miller is an active social entrepreneur. Since 2013, he has served as chairman of Team Rubicon, helping the NGO become one of the leading veterans service organizations by leveraging military veterans’ skills to help disaster victims. Miller has also served as the chairman of the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, donating more than $150 million and launching online resources: WorkforceReady, DisasterReady, and NonprofitReady.
The software executive also helped create Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), serving as a director of the organization since 2008. The merger of FAAN and FAI created the largest global voluntary health organization serving the food allergic community. In his role, Miller also aided the development of the UCLA Food Allergy Program.
Miller is the co-chairman of LA-Tech.org, an organization he founded in 2018 to expand economic opportunity for underserved communities in Los Angeles including the 1000 Intern Initiative, an effort to provide tech internships for students of color. Since 2020, he has been the managing partner at AllerFund, the first venture capital fund for companies focusing on food allergies. Miller also joined 1P.org in 2020 as a philanthropist as the organization addresses homelessness, gun safety, and climate change.
As managing partner of 1P Ventures since 2011, Miller has advised and invested in tech companies primarily in Los Angeles including Ellevation, Accolade, MyKaarma, Thrive Global, Procore, Nomi Health, and AllVoices. He also serves on the boards of Mindbody, a scheduling software for the wellness industry, and Comparably, an online compensation and company comparison tool.
Miller often writes and speaks on talent management, entrepreneurship, technology, and philanthropy. The software founder co-authored "Business Capital for Women." He was recognized as “CEO of the Year” by the Technology Council in 2009 and as “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young in 2011. In 2017 he was ranked #5 on The SaaS Report’s “Top CEOs” list, #8 on Comparably’s “Best CEOs” list, and he was awarded HR Tech World’s “Unleash” award, as well as the Best Practices Institute “CEO Award.”
Earlier in his career Miller was a consultant and an investment banker.
Miller holds his M.B.A. from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business, his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, his B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, and his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds both his Series 7 and CPA certifications.
