EVP of Cerner
As Cerner’s Chief Legal Officer, Dan Devers is responsible for overseeing Cerner’s worldwide legal affairs including litigation, intellectual property and corporate matters.

Dan has previously led Cerner’s cloud initiatives, including Cerner’s collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon. Dan was responsible for Cerner’s cloud modernization and innovation roadmap, go-to-market strategies, business model transformation, and other activities related to Cerner’s evolution to the Software-as-a-Service platform for health care.

Dan also serves as Chief Intellectual Property Officer. In this role, Dan is responsible for the developing Cerner’s industry-leading patent portfolio, and managing legal

matters related to enforcement, litigation and licensing of Cerner’s intellectual property.

Originally joining Cerner in 2002 as a corporate counsel and legal executive, Dan established Cerner’s patent program and helped launch CareAware®, RxStation® and a number of other new business lines. After rejoining Cerner in 2012, Dan held a number of roles including General Counsel with responsibilities over litigation, employment and intellectual property matters.

Under Dan’s leadership, Cerner developed the largest patent portfolio in the health care IT industry. Dan was part of a core team that successfully launched the health care device business line at Cerner. He also played a key role in the formation of CommonWell Health Alliance, a leading effort to address interoperability in the industry. He successfully negotiated innovation relationships with numerous clients and collaborators including Optum, Intermountain, Geisinger and Siemens.

In addition to his Cerner experience, Dan was an equity partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon. He taught patent law at the University of Missouri and served a three-year gubernatorial appointment to the Missouri Technology Corporation’s Board of Directors. He has been named “Best of the Bar” by the Kansas City Business Journal and a “Rising Star” by KC Business magazine.

While in law school, Dan was a lead articles editor of the Missouri Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Dan is a graduate of the University of Missouri, earning his Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Dan is a registered patent attorney and named inventor on two U.S. patents.
