David Howson oversees Cboe's business lines globally, including equities, derivatives, global FX, data and access solutions, and listings, as well as derivatives strategy and The Options Institute. Based in Chicago, Howson leads Cboe's global teams in operating a trusted, inclusive global marketplace, providing leading products, technology and data solutions that enable participants to define a sustainable financial future.
Previously, Howson was Executive Vice President, President, Cboe Europe and Asia Pacific. Prior to that, he was President, Cboe Europe. Under his leadership, Cboe Europe became one of the largest pan-European stock market and trade reporting facility operators with venues in both the United Kingdom (Cboe UK) and the European Union (Cboe NL). Howson was instrumental to the launch of Cboe Europe Derivatives and the acquisition of EuroCCP, Cboe's pan-European clearinghouse.
Howson served as Chief Operating Officer of Cboe Europe from 2013 to January 2020, overseeing the company's software engineering, infrastructure and operational teams.
Previously, he was Chief Technology Officer at Equiduct Systems Ltd., where he helped establish Equiduct as a pan-European Regulated Market in 2006. Prior to Equiduct, Howson was a solutions architect and principal consultant at Reuters Consulting.
Howson is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and regularly shares his market structure expertise with various industry groups, including the European Commission's High Level Forum on Capital Markets Union and the Consultative Working Group of ESMA's Secondary Markets Standing Committee.
He graduated with first-class honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from Newcastle University.
