Martin Small, Senior Managing Director, is Chief Financial Officer for BlackRock and its Global Head of Corporate Strategy. Martin is responsible for leading BlackRock’s global financial and corporate strategy teams. He oversees accounting and controllership, financial planning and analysis, tax, treasury, investor relations, corporate development and corporate strategy. Martin is a member of BlackRock’s Global Executive Committee (GEC) and serves as the GEC sponsor for BlackRock’s GIVES Network, which coordinates and supports employee philanthropy and volunteerism.

Before becoming CFO in 2023, Martin had been Head of BlackRock's U.S. Wealth Advisory business from 2018 to 2022. The U.S. Wealth Advisory teams distribute BlackRock's active, iShares, separately managed account (SMA), model portfolio and alternatives investment capabilities to wealth management clients and platforms and lead the adoption of BlackRock's portfolio construction and digital wealth technologies by financial advisors. He was also responsible for leading the acquisition of, and overseeing, the Aperio personalized index SMA business.

Martin served as Head of U.S. and Canada iShares from 2014 to 2018. He was responsible for leading BlackRock's U.S. and Canada ETF businesses across institutional and intermediary sales and marketing, product and capital markets. He served as a member of the ETF & Index Investments global management committee.

From 2008 to 2014, Martin helped establish, and served in global and regional leadership roles for, the firm’s Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) group. The FMA team delivers portfolio construction, asset management and risk and regulatory advisory services to public and private institutions. He also served as a member of the BlackRock Solutions/Aladdin Operating Committee.

Martin joined BlackRock in 2006 as a member of the Legal & Compliance Department. Prior to joining BlackRock, Martin was a corporate lawyer with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. He started his career as a federal law clerk for the Honorable Richard Owen, U.S. District Judge in the Southern District of New York.

Martin is a former member of the Board of Governors for the Money Management Institute (MMI). Martin earned a B.A. degree from Brown University and a J.D. degree from New York University School of Law.
