Dean Drako is an American businessman and serial entrepreneur, best known as the founder of Barracuda Networks, a security industry leader.
Currently, Drako serves as founder, president and CEO of Drako Motors and IC Manage, and founder and CEO of Eagle Eye Networks, Inc. He started both Drako Motors and Eagle Eye in 2013 and IC Manage in 2002.
In 2003, he co-founded Barracuda Networks, serving as its president and CEO until 2012. He started the company to solve the issue of spam and email security, and he played an instrumental role in growing the company from one product to a portfolio of security and storage solutions.
Before Barracuda, Drako founded Velosel, Boldfish, and Design Acceleration, Inc. He previously served as vice president of engineering for 3DO, and he started his career at Apple as a technical project lead in 1988.
Drako has served as an entrepreneur-in-residence at SoftBank Venture Capital. Additionally, he serves as chairman of The Permanent Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to curate secure digital archives for families and communities.
He has received various accolades throughout his career, including recognition as Ernst & Young’s Technology Entrepreneur of the Year for Northern California” in 2007. He was also named one of the “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2014” by Goldman Sachs.
Drako earned his B.S. in electrical engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and his M.S. in electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
