ASA International is one of the world’s largest international microfinance institutions, providing small, socially responsible financial services to low-income entrepreneurs, most of whom are women, across Asia and Africa. The company's purpose is to reduce poverty and enable female empowerment through its mission of enhancing socio-economic progress of low-income entrepreneurs by increasing financial inclusion.
As at 31 December 2023, ASA International served 2.3m million clients in 13 countries, with 2,016 branches and 13,433 staff.
The Company has a rich heritage in the microfinance sector, based on - the ASA Model of Microfinance - pioneered by ASA International's co-founder, Md. Shafiqual Haque Choudhury, over thirty years ago in Bangladesh.
The ASA Model is a decentralised, standardised and sustainable microfinance lending model that allows for cost efficiency, quick decision making and replicability, while meeting the basic demand for savings and loans, and over time, also digital financial services. In addition to its high-touch branch model, a digital channel will be introduced via smartphones and other mobile devices, market-by-market over the coming years.
ASA International has traded on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange since 18 July 2018.
