Louis John Doerr is an entrepreneur and an independent director at Alphabet, Inc.

Doerr is the founder of Silicon Compiler Systems Corp., NewSchools Venture Fund, Techne, Inc. and @Home Solutions LLC. Since 1980, he has been a partner at the Palo Alto-based venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers LLC, which made a $12.5 million investment in Google in 1999.

Previously, he was an advisor at Pacific Community Ventures LLC, a principal at Intel Corp., the CEO at Silicon Compiler Systems Corp. and a principal at New Aurora Corp.

Doerr is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and he has served on the boards of numerous other companies, including Amyris, Inc., Bloom Energy Corporation, and Zynga. 

He also wrote the New York Times bestseller, Measure What Matters: How Google Bono, and the Gates Foundation Rock the World with OKRs.

He earned his B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering, as well as his M.S. in computer science from Rice University. He also holds an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.
