George Aylward is president and chief executive officer of Virtus Investment Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTS). He is responsible for setting and executing the firm's strategy to create growth, improve profitability, and enhance long-term shareholder value through a multi-manager, multi-style investment platform.
Mr. Aylward has more than 25 years of experience in the asset management industry, beginning in the financial services group of PriceWaterhouse LLP prior to joining the corporate finance team at Virtus’ predecessor in 1996. He was chief of staff to the CEO of Virtus’ former parent from 2002 to 2004 and was chief operating officer of Virtus from 2004 to 2006. He was named president of the company in November 2006.
Mr. Aylward successfully directed the spin-off of Virtus from its former parent, in 2008, including its transition to a public company, selection of a board of directors and development of corporate governance procedures.
Mr. Aylward holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts. He earned the designation of certified public accountant. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Investment Company Institute and the Board of Directors of the UConn Foundation and its Audit Committee.
