Benjamin (Ben) Kahrs was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer as of November 1, 2019, focusing on implementing the new corporate operation model and transforming manufacturing capabilities, involving use of the Alcoa Business System, its manufacturing management program. The operating model transformation includes the creation and design of an enterprise-level approach to the technical centers of excellence, asset management, digital execution and capital deployment.
Ben also has responsibility for the Alcoa Technical Center, the Company’s Research and Development (R&D) facility for breakthrough smelting technology. In addition, he has oversight for Alcoa’s Global Shared Services, Information Technology and Automated Solutions organizations. Ben is also a member of the Alcoa Executive Team, which sets strategic direction for the Company.
Most recently, he was Senior Vice President, Manufacturing Excellence and R&D, responsible for implementing, deploying and managing a world-class manufacturing program. He also helped identify and implement training programs to bring automation and digitization to operations, and oversaw Research & Development including Alcoa Technical Center and breakthrough technologies.
Earlier, Ben was Senior Vice President Strategy, Technology and Corporate Development, responsible for strategic planning, asset management, value-creation initiatives, industry analysis and new ventures. He also led the Technology team, Corporate Development and Energy team.
Before Alcoa Corporation separated from Alcoa Inc. in 2016, Ben was Vice President Strategy and Technology, Global Primary Products.
Ben studied chemical engineering at Clemson University and business administration at The Citadel.
