EVP of Albemarle
Karen Narwold serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. In this role, she leads the company's legal, ethics and compliance, government and regulatory affairs, and communications groups.

Narwold joined Albemarle in September 2010 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. In 2016, she was appointed Executive Vice President, CAO, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

Narwold has significant experience in risk identification, mitigation and management, and is a member of Albemarle’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee.  In this role, Narwold led the assessment of Albemarle’s risk in legal compliance, resulting in a redesigned program focused on mitigating and managing the company’s highest legal risks. 

Narwold has over 29 years of experience with industrial and chemical companies.

Prior to joining Albemarle, she served as Special Counsel with Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and with Symmetry Advisors, where she worked in the areas of strategic, financial and capital structure planning and restructuring for public and private companies.

Previously, she served as Vice President and Strategic Counsel of Barzel Industries, a North American steel processor and distributor. Prior to Barzel, Narwold served as Vice President, General Counsel, Human Resources and Corporate Secretary during her 16-year career with GrafTech International, a global graphite and carbon manufacturer and former subsidiary of Union Carbide. She began her career practicing private law.

Narwold graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Connecticut.

Narwold is a member of the board of directors of Ingevity Corporation and Windfield Holdings PTY Ltd.

Albemarle Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets engineered specialty chemicals worldwide. It operates through three segments: Energy Storage, Specialties and Ketjen. The Energy Storage segment offers lithium compounds, including lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, and lithium chloride; technical services for the handling and use of reactive lithium products; and lithium-containing by-products recycling services. The Specialties segment provides bromine-based specialty chemicals, including elemental bromine, alkyl and inorganic bromides, brominated powdered activated carbon, and other bromine fine chemicals; lithium specialties, such as butyllithium and lithium aluminum hydride; develops and manufactures cesium products for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries; and zirconium, barium, and titanium products for pyrotechnical applications that include airbag initiators. The Ketjen segment offers clean fuels technologies (CFT), which is composed of hydroprocessing catalysts (HPC) together with isomerization and akylation catalysts; fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and additives; and performance catalyst solutions (PCS), which is composed of organometallics and curatives. The company serves the energy storage, petroleum refining, consumer electronics, construction, automotive, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, and crop protection markets. Albemarle Corporation was founded in 1887 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.
